On May 7, 2020, The Johnson County Commissioners requested that Dr. Schueler, Johnson County Public Health Officer, approve variances for some Johnson County entities. The variances allow them to open before the Governor's reopen date of May 15. Less than 12 hours later, the State Health Department approved the requested variances for Johnson County COVID-19 restrictions.
Variance Number One allows bars and restaurants to open as of May 7, 2020, in a limited capacity.
In general, bars and restaurants may open for indoor and outdoor dining, provided they follow social distancing guidelines, people wear masks in public, and proper infection prevention precautions are in place.
Variance Number Two allows churches and funeral homes to hold services.
Churches and funeral homes are also allowed to open, provided that people follow social distancing guidelines. Numbers of people are not restricted, provided that they can practice social distancing within the space.
