Volunteering at JCHC

One of the most rewarding ways to serve your community is in a healthcare setting. At Johnson County Healthcare, volunteers are an essential piece of the healthcare team and are utilized in a variety of roles. We will find a volunteer area that both meets your needs and supports our healthcare team. There are many opportunities for you to serve during the day, evenings, and some weekends.

Volunteer with us! Our volunteers think it’s a great idea! Here’s why:

Volunteers are essential to Johnson County Healthcare Center, and they're part of what makes our community so great. We admire the many volunteers who step forward in a caring and supportive way and come together to invest their time, skills, and enthusiasm in helping in so many ways. The support offered by our volunteers makes it possible for JCHC to meet the health and wellness needs of our community.

What can I do?

First, ask yourself if there is something specific you want to do.

The best way to start volunteering is to match your personality and interests with a role that is right for you. Answering these questions will help you narrow that down.

Do I want……

...to make life better where I live?
…to meet people who are different from me?
…to try something new?
…to do something with my spare time?
…to see a different way of life?
…to experience work I might want to do as a full-time job?
…to do activities that line up with my interests and hobbies?

How to find the right volunteer opportunity

The more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience! Still, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a lot of time out of your busy day. Giving even in small, simple ways can help those in need and improve your health and well-being. Whether you’re looking for a short-term project or a long-term commitment, there are many ways you can get involved

Why does volunteering matter?

  • It’s vital for strong, inclusive, and resilient communities
  • It assists an organization in reaching its goals
  • It builds relationships
  • It’s a key component to a healthy, happy society
  • Volunteers live longer and have happier lives

Volunteer Opportunities at JCHC:

Happy Apple

Within the lobby of JCHC is the Happy Apple gift shop.  The Happy Apple is fully run and stocked by volunteers.  This is a fun place to work and be.  Shifts are 4 hours at a time, and scheduled in advance.  The Happy Apple is open from 8 – 3 each weekday.

Events

JCHC holds several events.

  1. The (biannual) Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice Show
  2. Women’s Breast Health Night
  3. Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K
  4. Hospice Memorial Tree of Life Celebration
  5. Wyoming Health Fairs Event

For all of these areas of volunteering, your commitment can be all day, part of the day or a single shift. Or you can choose to be involved in the preparation leading up to the event. Event volunteers work closely with the event director to help in the organization and facilitation of these awesome events.

Fundraising

The JCHC foundation is building a volunteer group that specifically does fundraising for the facility.  If you are interested in seeing JCHC grow and love talking to people, this position is for you.  Within fundraising, there are many opportunities.

These people help with general clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, as well as event planning and program-related tasks. Helping create donor lists, and maintaining financial records fall within this volunteer opportunity.  This is a great opportunity for people who want to update their office skills, students who want to gain experience and strengthen their resumes and recent retirees who want to contribute their skills to a charitable organization. This position also provides valuable experience for Event Planning or Fundraising students and anyone with a passion for promoting healthy living for those in our community.

Greeters

JCHC Greeters welcome all visitors to our facility as they arrive. They are friendly and outgoing with high attention to detail and they will love talking to new people.  we schedule the greeters in shifts and individualize your shifts based on your schedule.

Jon and Amie Auxiliary

The auxiliary members are our ambassadors at Amie Holt Care Center.  The sky is the limit for this group, and they bring their considerable and varied talents to the table.  The auxiliary members brighten the days at AHCC in a variety of ways.  Working in the beauty salon painting nails, reading to patients, helping wheelchair-bound people to move safely around the facility, providing music, presiding over church services, calling bingo, coordinating outside activities, doing puzzles, or simply visiting are among the varied activities that this volunteer group does.  Shifts are flexible depending on the time that you have available.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provides governance, represents JCHC in our community, and accepts ultimate legal authority for the organization.  The Board works collaboratively with the Executive Director to achieve organizational goals set forth in the strategic plan.
